My Timer Stopped Talking to SalonTouch

Modified on Wed, Sep 30, 2020 at 12:09 PM

Almost all timer issues are resolved by simply restarting the timer.  If the software is no longer able to set beds, perform the following steps:

  1. Power down the timer for 60 seconds then power it back on.  Try to set a bed from the software.

  2. Make sure that all cable and wiring is tight and snug on the Tmax  timer. Also make sure that the connector going to the PC is set tightly on the PC serial port.

  3. Close SalonTouch or SunTouch and open it back up.  Try to set a bed from the software.

  4. Close SalonTouch or SunTouch and restart the PC.  Try to set a bed from the software.

With a USB to Serial Adapter, there is a small possibility that Windows will require SalonTouch to use a different way of talking to the serial port.  This setting is located in the communications manager (commanager.exe) that SalonTouch uses to talk to the timer.

  1. Look for the small spinning globe in the Windows notification area.  If you do not see it, you may have to click the click on the arrow to expand the notification area.
  2. Right-click on the globe and select Restore

  3. In the Window that appears, select Tracking.

  5. If you are using SalonTouch 10, place a checkmark next to Use direct database communication for refreshing network computer's Activity Screen.

  6. If you are Hosted using SalonTouch 10, place a checkmark next Using 2 SalonTouch databases (SalonTouch.net hosted Services)
  7. Click OK.
  8. Restart SalonTouch.

There are a couple of options you need to enable in SalonTouch 10 when using the direct to USB method

  1. In SalonTouch 10 go to Setup>Options>General
  2. Enable the Use second method for copying and deleting commanager files when file locks are an issue (may require restarting computer to release exiting locks) and On this computer use the Direct Database Refresh method for refreshing the main activity screen (restart SalonTouch when using this option). ComManager must be set to use the Direct Refresh method too.

If these do not get the timer talking with the PC, you may need to change the Timer Settings in SalonTouch.
